Concert with Kommuna Lux

Kommuna Lux is a band from Ukraine, which is based on Ukrainian folk music,
which arose where people came together in Odessa, at the time a large proportion of the city’s
population were Jews. This is not music from the big concert stages. Municipality Lux
have their own style, they call “Odessa Gangsta Folk”, which stands for exciting
klezmer music and gangster folk songs from the hometown. The songs are about
the Odessites, their generous tolerance and relaxed lifestyle and their very special sense
for humor.

Odessa is world famous for its once significant Jewish life. In addition, the city was also
origin of the Russian dance tradition, as an independent genre. Despite
many bans in the Soviet era, this highly valued music reached the whole
soviet commonwealth.
